Dance Coaching

Teaching since 2006, Abbey begun her own training as a dancer in her childhood, studying RAD ballet and CDTA tap and jazz, eventually successfully training to become an Associate Member of the Canadian Dance Teacher's Association. She continues to train and take class as a dancer in multiple genres and has experience teaching recreational and competitive students of all ages in jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, jazz tech and musical theatre.

When it comes to dance, Abbey believes in fostering a love of performance and artistic expression while working to reach one's highest technical potential in any chosen genre. She has had the pleasure of teaching on faculty and as a guest at many studios across Western Canada. She has taught at workshops and conventions including the Sparkle Dance Workshop in Olds, AB, the CDTA Annual Masterclass in Surrey, BC, the ADEA Team Motivate Workshop in Edmonton, AB, and more. Abbey continues to sub and pick up contracts teaching drop-ins, privates and workshops across Western Canada.

Adjudication

As an adjudicator, Abbey believes that competition can serve as an indicator of how far a dancer has come, and where they can still go! Because of this, Abbey strives to be encouraging above all else. After all, why would anyone want to keep doing something if they are discouraged?

If your competition is all about encouraging performers to reach their highest potential, while fostering a true love of dance, Abbey may be the right fit! Feel free to contact her for more information.

Workshops or Privates

Jazz Tech Coaching for Novice, Intermediate or Advanced students

This workshop offers focused and encouraging instruction, combined with tips and drills in both technique and fitness to help students improve their skills and consistency. Students will be expected to push themselves, but can be assured it will be in a safe, positive environment. They will also be offered tips on how to self-correct so they will see faster results going forward.

Improv Artistry

In this workshop students will be led through exercises in improvisation, using both physical and emotional techniques to help foster the growth of their inner artist. This is especially beneficial for students who are fantastic technicians but lack their own "style" of movement or performance.

Character Performance Development

This workshop is particularly beneficial for students performing musical theatre or stage routines. They will learn a combination, and be asked to try acting exercises and drills to help them find a way into their character. Emphasis is put on them using their own ideas and learning to trust their own artistic intuition, so they may find character more easily moving forwards.
